What Is a Good CPS? Realistic Click Speed Benchmarks

What is a good CPS score? Realistic benchmarks for 1s, 5s, 10s and 60s tests, per technique and per game — with honest numbers, not leaderboard fantasy.

“What is a good CPS?” is the most-asked question in click speed communities, and it deserves an honest answer. The short version: 6–8 CPS with one finger, 9–13 with butterfly or jitter, and anything above 15 sustained is exceptional. But the honest answer depends on four things nobody tells you about: the duration, the technique, the input, and the server cap.

The benchmark table

These are realistic numbers for practiced players, not leaderboard outliers:

Duration Single finger (Kohi) Butterfly Jitter Drag
1s burst 7–10 10–14 9–14 20–30
5s 6–8 9–12 8–11 15–25
10s 6–8 8–11 7–10 12–20
60s 4–6 6–9 4–6 varies

Notice the pattern: every technique loses output as the window lengthens, and drag collapses the most because fingertip friction changes under sustained use.

Why the duration changes the answer

A “good” 1-second score is a burst — it measures hand speed with zero fatigue. A “good” 10-second score measures rhythm and endurance, which is what actually wins fights. Most players score 1–3 CPS higher at 1 second than at 10 seconds, and that gap is normal. When you compare scores, always compare the same duration.

Why the technique changes the answer

Click speed has four technique tiers:

  • Kohi (one finger): 6–8 CPS is average, 9+ is genuinely fast, 12+ over 10 seconds is elite.
  • Butterfly (two fingers): 8–10 is early, 11–14 is competitive, 15+ is top-tier.
  • Jitter (forearm vibration): 9–12 typical, 13+ serious, with a bigger spread than butterfly.
  • Drag (friction): 15–25 typical on a suitable mouse, 30+ extreme — and often banned.

The trap is comparing across techniques. A 12 CPS Kohi score and a 12 CPS butterfly score are not the same thing: one finger at 12 is extraordinary, two fingers at 12 is a Tuesday.

Why the input changes the answer

Mouse, spacebar and touch produce different numbers on the same hands. Mouse speed is partly hardware (button travel, switch weight); spacebar speed is purer finger speed; touch taps are limited by screen response and multi-touch. If your mouse CPS is 7 but your spacebar CPS is 9, the mouse is the bottleneck — not your hand.

Why the server cap changes the answer

On Hypixel and most competitive Minecraft servers, clicks past roughly 13 CPS don’t register extra hits. That means on Hypixel, a “good” CPS is a consistent 12–13 — anything above is wasted effort. The best score on the leaderboard and the best score in the fight are different numbers, and only one of them wins duels.

The honest checklist

Run our 10-second CPS test and grade yourself:

  • Below 6 CPS: normal starting point. Rhythm work and metronome drills will move this fastest.
  • 6–8 CPS: average for single finger. Technique training (butterfly, jitter) is the next lever.
  • 9–11 CPS: well above average. You’re in competitive territory on most servers.
  • 12+ CPS: elite. On Hypixel you’re at the cap — spend training time on consistency and aim.

A good CPS is not a number on a leaderboard — it’s the number you can hold when it matters. Test at 10 seconds, track the trend on your Personal Best chart, and ignore anyone quoting a 1-second burst as a skill.
